Training Philosophy

There aren’t bad dogs…just dogs that have yet to be trained.

We can successfully resolve all problems, in all breeds, guaranteed.
We believe all dogs are trainable and specialize in both small and large dogs, dogs with various challenges, ranging from aggression to fearfulness to specific issues, and dogs both young and old can be trained and will be happier.

We’ll train a dog that you can live with.
Our goal is to help our owners understand and live with their dogs and help our doggie-students understand their people and the appropriate ways to live amongst a human family. By helping both human and canine, we not only correct and improve your dog’s behavior, but we help you cultivate a deeper bond and a healthier more enjoyable lifelong relationship with your dog!

It’s never too late to teach an old dog new tricks!
But, it might take a bit more effort…  While it is certainly easier to train a younger dog whose behaviors are more malleable and less ingrained than an older dog, we are highly experienced in working with older dogs that may have long-standing behavioral issues. In fact, we have worked with dogs as old as 14 years of age, successfully correcting problem areas to achieve not only better behavior, but also a happier mental state and a better relationship with their human family. Again, we can successfully train any dog with any problem that you may encounter.

Better to teach the right behavior (thus, being proactive) than to correct bad behavior.
If you just added a new canine member to your family, why not get off to the right foot and teach the right behavior before problems arise? We believe that in an ideal situation, it is much better to be proactive in your dog training by teaching the right behaviors before bad behaviors begin.

We offer puppy training for the young canine who wants to learn how best to please his or her human family and be an accepted and healthy member of the pack. Our puppy training works like many of our other programs—we speak with you to learn more about your lifestyle, your family environment, your training goals, and your ideal relationship with your dog. Then, we develop a training plan that will best work to achieve these goals, given your unique lifestyle and training goals. For puppies, we can address a number of issues including, but not limited to:

  • basic obedience
  • house manners
  • potty training
  • crate training
  • leash walking
  • socialization
  • proper play
  • corrections
  • mouthiness
  • fear
  • dominance
  • destructiveness, and much more.

Our training methods
We believe that good trainers have comprehensive and current knowledge of all training techniques available. Those that swear by only one method are limited in their scope and what they can achieve. We work with a variety of training methods, including positive reinforcement, clicker training, choke collars, use of treats, etc. We are strong advocates of positive reinforcement training, but believe that just doling out treats alone, though enabling quicker learning, will not bring about the desired long-term obedience many owners seek.

We firmly believe that a good trainer draws on all methods available to determine the best way to help a dog and their human family, given the owner’s goals and lifestyle, the age, breed, temperament and personality of the dog, and other factors.

We will work closely with you and other involved family members to develop a successful training strategy you feel comfortable with and confident in.

“Investing in professional canine training is the single most responsible thing you can do for your dog and your family.”
