Absolute K-9 trains dogs for La Jolla families from our facility at 11339 Sorrento Valley Rd, about ten minutes up the I-5. We have been training San Diego dogs since 1994, and more than 10,000 have come through our programs.
What La Jolla Dogs Actually Need
La Jolla is a harder place to own an untrained dog than most of San Diego, and it comes down to one thing: your dog is almost always on a leash.
The City of San Diego’s official list of approved leash-free locations does not include a single site in La Jolla. The nearest fenced off-leash parks are Doyle Community Park on Regents Road and Nobel Park on Judicial Drive, both in University City, and Capehart Park over in Pacific Beach.
Everywhere else, city rules require dogs to be leashed on a lead no longer than eight feet, including park trails and canyons. Dogs are restricted on city beaches during daytime hours too, and the exact windows vary by location and season, so it is worth checking the city’s current rules before you go.
So a La Jolla dog spends most of its outdoor life leashed, in crowds, past other dogs, tourists, restaurant patios and wildlife. Loose-leash walking and a recall you can actually rely on are not refinements here. They are the difference between taking your dog out and leaving them home.

Board & Train
Your dog stays with us and works with trainers daily. The most common choice for busy households, and the fastest route to a dog you can walk through the village.
Private Training
One-on-one work on the specific things going wrong, with you handling the dog so the training sticks at home.
Puppy Training
Leash manners and socialisation early, while habits are still forming rather than after they have set.
Aggression & Reactivity
Lunging and barking at other dogs on a crowded sidewalk is the problem we are asked about most by La Jolla owners.
Veterinary Care On Site
We share our location with Snug Animal Hospital, so dogs staying with us have veterinary care in the same place. For older dogs, dogs on medication, or anyone who has been nervous about boarding before, that tends to be the detail that settles it.
Getting Here From La Jolla
We are at 11339 Sorrento Valley Rd, a straight run north on the I-5 and typically ten to fifteen minutes from most of La Jolla. We are open 8am to 7pm Monday through Friday and Sunday, and 8am to 6pm on Saturday.
